How to Get a Job without a Degree

If you’re looking for how to get a job without a degree, I want to assure you that you can get the highest paying jobs without a degree. My friend Mr. Harrison currently does not have a degree and most companies he has worked for require a degree during job advertisement.  When I asked him how he did it, he told me about a place in Ohio where people are trained to be firemen and EMTs and are paid $55/hr without a degree.

A degree is just a way to check if you have some knowledge of the job role you’re applying for.  If you have the same skills as a person with a degree, apply. If you have more skills than someone with a degree, then your application must come with full confidence because in most cases, you will be considered first before him.

Most times, they’ll be very glad to employ you especially if their jaws drop to the floor at the sight of your level of skills. But this is not always the case. Some stubborn HR will have your Resume thrashed when they notice you have no degree.

I currently run a company and I have made a conscious decision to hire people based on their skills and experience rather than their degree.  I have a very strong belief that people with skills are far more employable than people with just degrees. Someone may have a degree, but that doesn’t necessarily mean they have the practical skills needed for the job.

When it comes to being adaptable, Experienced job seekers are number one to consider. They have been through the ups and downs of the industry. They know how to handle challenges and adapt to changes.

I have employed many people and a degree is not my priority in selecting qualified candidates. We are in a world where degree holders are being given so much importance, that I had to take it upon myself to show people that individuals with practical experience and skills are more valuable than people with just degrees.

I currently live in Delaware, and during my search for qualified candidates, I went to top universities to get the best. I had to schedule an interview to pick the best among them. After the interview, I discovered that the degree holders don’t know much about jobs in the real world.

Some students prove to have a clue about the job while others lack any knowledge about the job because it seems they read to just pass exams and make first class, saving it in their short-term memory, and after that, it disappears.

Multi-Billionaires I know today running multi-billion dollar companies are either school dropouts or they didn’t even attend university at all. The trust remains the fact that when you look at the most successful individuals on the surface of the earth, you’ll find a common thread.

Billionaires like Bill Gates, Mark Zuckerberg, Michael Dell, Steve Jobs, James Cameron, Frank Lloyd Wright, and Harrison Ford, etc are some of the famous entrepreneurs who dropped out of school.

Getting a degree is very good and it matters a lot. Please don’t misquote me. Having a degree is perfectly okay. But the fact that you have a degree doesn’t guarantee how far you’ll reach in life. A degree doesn’t guarantee success in life.

You don’t have to go to university to succeed in life

A talented individual is more likely to easily succeed in life than just a degree holder. If you have a degree, try very hard to add more skills to your degree. Adding relevant skills to your degree will reshape your degree to be more attractive to the HR departments.

How to Get a Job without a Degree

Go into Sales: In sales, many businesses will give you a chance to get it. They will happily employ you to prove yourself
Apply for Jobs: You have to make a move by going out and applying for any job you’re interested in any sales role
Wait for Job offers: All you just have to do is wait for just a few days and you’ll see numerous calls with offers coming in. You just need to show them what you are capable of doing.

Attend Interviews: When you get a call for an interview, then it’s about time you prepare very well. By preparing very well, I mean learning about the company, studying its mission and vision, know the founders, their target customers, and the products they sell.

There’s absolutely no how you’ll go for an interview with first-hand information, having all these listed above and you won’t succeed. You’ll definitely get the job.

As a non-degree holder, I did lots of oddball work. I worked my ass off on remodeling construction, sprinkler works, computer maintenance, and repairs. I also went into website development and building different websites. I spent time learning different coding and web design.

I updated my skills on LinkedIn and other major job sites. At this time, I was still staying with my parents. I did all I could to raise money to be independent of my parents.

One day, one of my friends who got hired by a local web firm told me that they needed project managers. He linked me up with the company CEO and I told him what skills I currently have and I was honest in outlining my skills.

I gave him my assurance of working hard to help actualize the company’s goals. At the end of the day, I was given the job.

Just a few months after I started the work, I showed resilience and commitment to work. The company promoted me to Senior Project Manager.

I didn’t relax after I was promoted to Senior Project Manager. I increased my network and utilized LinkedIn and other social media networks to advertise my skills.

I continued this and not quite long, I was given a very big job paying 6 figures. I had to tender my Short Resignation Letter. Developing skills and networking helped my career very well.

When you don’t have a degree, there are 3 key areas you have to consistently focus on and they’re;

Build your Skills; This is very important because there are skills that pay more than degrees. These skills will land you the highest-paying jobs you can ever imagine.

Develop a Story; When I was searching for jobs, the story of not having a degree will always come up. So you must prepare your story very well. Tell them how being a dropout has helped you acquire so many skills and contributed significantly to the success of your career.

Networking – Meeting and interacting with people. Sharing ideas and skills with different people. Helping people to connect. Just be genuinely interested in people and help them make business connections.

NOTE; To drop out of school isn’t an easy route to success. Dropping out of school just simply means you want to take the hard route. Don’t be deceived by the appeal “College Dropout to Tech Billionaire” that social media influencers fantasize about.

It’ll be a very unreasonable move to drop out of school in this computer-age generation. Although school doesn’t guarantee success it lays a good foundation for you.

However, if you must drop out of school, you have to have the mentality of “I must do it and succeed no matter what it takes” This also means doing any jobs that come your way including low-paying jobs. Doing dirty jobs and working your ass off is also part of it.
